Persephone Returns

My husband and children surprised me with probably the most amazing, thoughtful, creative, completely insane gift this mothers day. Knowing how tough this one might be, he pulled out all the stops. Someone must be reading my blog because I got some Vosges Haut Chocolates! OMG! I've never tried these chocolates and they seem like something out of a dream. They are considerably on the high-end, price wise of edible treats but completely worth every penny. Along with these being my dream chocolates, I am a huge fan of Greek mythology and all of its glory, so this thematic collection was near and dear to my heart. So many things have done their best to try and drive a wedge between my husband and I, but just as Spring always returns so shall we. The story of Persephone goes as this:

She was the daughter of Zeus and his sister Demeter (-_-.) Then, Uncle Hades (Zeus' brother) kidnaps Persephone while she's in the meadow and brings her down to the Underworld to be Queen. Demeter found out and got pissed, then forced Zeus to have a "talk" with his brother to get Persephone back. She killed all the crops and vegetation, and the world grew cold as she waited for the return of her daughter. Zeus had no choice and ordered Hades to return Persephone, he sent a messenger god to retrieve her. Before Hermes arrived to retrieve Persephone, Hades gave her some Pomegranate seeds to eat while she was in the Underworld. When you consume any food in the underworld you are bound to stay. Persephone (the very clever) was very aware of this rule and acknowledged this gesture as being given a choice. She accepted Hades love but only to a certain extent. They struck a deal, it was arranged that for four to six months (depending on the version of this tale) Persephone would stay in the underworld with Hades, and for the rest of the time she is to be with her mother Demeter. This story represents the explanation of the seasons changing.

These gems, although pricey, are WORTH EVERY PENNY. ♥

My hubby and I feel like Ms. Honey & Matilda devouring these yummy truffles together. It's like a whole experience, and the more I eat and share with him, I keep thinking these would be perfect for a dinner party dessert. Pop open a bottle of wine to pair with these chocolates and enjoy. These treats are a complete mood enhancer! They are so indulgent and this box is lasting longer than anything I've ever had. We are looking forward to what flavor to try tonight. What amazing, creative little bundles of joy!
